With a single screen that has shown films for over 90 years, the theatre re-entered the spotlight after appearing as the fictional "Kkanneu Theatre" in the Netflix drama Poksak Soksassuda.
Scenes in the drama—such as Geum-myeong working as a ticket booth part-timer and Park Chung-seop working as a sign painter—were actually filmed at Gwangju Theatre. News of the filming has generated international visitor interest.
