'Glowcation' — a blend of 'Glow' and 'Vacation' — has started to reshape how visitors experience Korea, and the spending patterns back it up. Cumulative sales at Olive Young aimed at foreign tourists have surpassed 1 trillion won through August of this year, with frequent foreign transactions underscoring the trend.
In medical tourism, demand for cosmetic procedures is concentrated: dermatology procedures account for 54.9% of foreign medical-tourism spending, while plastic surgery represents 19.3%. Meanwhile, purchases of dermocosmetic products at pharmacies have also jumped sharply, with several acne-targeted items emerging as top sellers.
These consumption patterns go beyond simple shopping. Cosmetics, clinical treatments, and pharmacy finds are being woven into travel itineraries, with beauty experiences now forming a deliberate part of many visitors' trips. That shift is visibly changing local retail and service landscapes around popular neighborhoods and clinics.
For travelers interested in K-culture, the glowcation phenomenon is a useful lens: it shows how beauty routines and treatments have become not just consumer choices but cultural travel experiences that shape what visitors seek out and remember on their trips to Korea.
