Incheon Airport SmartPass lets you pre-register your passport and facial data so you can pass through the departure hall and boarding gates using face recognition only — no need to take out your passport or boarding pass. Anyone aged 7 and older can register; those under 14 require a guardian's consent. Registered facial data remains valid for five years after registration.

If you don't have a Korean bank app, there's no need to worry. Registration can be completed using the dedicated SmartPass app or at the airport's automated immigration kiosks. (While the service integrates with some Korean bank apps, international visitors can use the SmartPass app or airport kiosks to register.) The process requires scanning your passport, submitting facial data, and entering your boarding pass information. Once registered, you can pass through SmartPass-only gates by face recognition without repeating the registration steps on future departures.
From May 28, 2026, Incheon Airport expanded SmartPass-only gates in Terminal 1 to include Gate 2 (west) and Gate 5 (east), reducing wait times for passengers using those gates. During busy travel periods, SmartPass users can complete departure procedures faster than at regular gates.
If your schedule is tight or you have a lot of luggage, it's a good idea to register a few days before departure. Once enrolled, your SmartPass enrollment can be used again for subsequent departures.
